The University of Calabria is a public institution which has legal personality and is dedicated to promote scientific research in order to contribute to the cultural and civil progress of the society in which it operates.
In the pursuit of these goals, the University also promotes the collaboration with other public and private bodies, both national and international, particularly with the Regional Council of Calabria and its local authorities.
For the greater effectiveness of its educational mission, the University of Calabria, in accordance with its founding law, has a residential character, and the attendance to the classes is mandatory and monitored.
The University of Calabria plans every year, in relation to its own resources, the number of students to be enrolled, the enrolment in the following years according to the results achieved during the previous year, and encourages the community life of teachers, students and administrative staff in a Residential Centre, which provides accommodation and canteen services as well as facilities for cultural, sporting and recreational activities.
The services provided by the Residential Centre are not totally free of charge, in any case. The fee charged to students is commensurate with the economic conditions of their respective families. Due to its residential character, the University of Calabria also provides student support services.
The University of Calabria participates to the CoMAS project through the Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Sciences (DIBEST) and the Department of Mechanical, Energetics and Management Engineering (DIMEG).
